FAQ

Frequently asked
questions.

Does FileLink use AI to read or process my files?+
No. No AI model, no LLM, and no machine learning system ever reads, summarizes, indexes, or trains on your files. This is our core non-negotiable principle — and the thing that makes FileLink different from every other file-sharing tool.
Can the recipient download or forward my file?+
You decide. By default, files are streamed to the secure in-browser viewer and cannot be downloaded. You can enable download if needed, but the default is zero device footprint. Forwarding the link still requires OTP verification — the file is never accessible without identity proof.
What happens if I revoke access after someone has already opened the file?+
Access ends immediately. Because the file is streamed — not copied to the recipient’s device — revocation is real. The next time they try to open the link, they see nothing. There is no local copy to keep.
Do I need to install anything to send or receive a file?+
No. Both sender and recipient work entirely in the browser. No app, no plugin, no software install. The recipient just clicks a link, verifies with an OTP, and views the file in the secure viewer.
How is this different from just password-protecting a PDF?+
A password-protected PDF is still a copy of the file on the recipient’s device. Once they have the password, they have the file forever. FileLink streams the file — there is no copy. You can revoke access, track who opened it, see per-page engagement, and require OTP verification. A password is a lock on a file you’ve already given away.
Can I share an entire folder with subfolders, not just one file?+
Yes. You can share a single file, an entire folder, or a nested subfolder. Recipients see a clean index and can navigate the structure in the secure viewer — without downloading anything.
How does OTP verification work for the recipient?+
When a recipient clicks your secure link, they enter their email address. FileLink sends a one-time password to that email. They enter the OTP to gain access. You see exactly which email opened the file and when — no anonymous views.
Is FileLink GDPR / data-residency compliant?+
FileLink uses end-to-end encryption for files in transit and at rest. Files are never processed by AI or shared with third parties. For specific compliance and data-residency requirements, contact us — we can tailor configurations to your jurisdiction.
What’s the difference between FileLink and a full virtual data room?+
A virtual data room is a heavy, expensive platform built for M&A transactions. FileLink delivers the same security guarantees — OTP, NDA, watermarking, revocation, audit trail — in a lightweight, browser-based tool you can use for everyday file sharing. No implementation project. No per-deal pricing.
Can I revoke access to a file after it’s already been opened?+
Yes. Because files stream rather than download, revocation is real — the next attempt to open the link shows nothing, and there’s no local copy left behind to keep.
What’s the difference between TeamDrives and FolderLinks?+
TeamDrives is a persistent internal shared drive for your own team. FolderLinks is for sharing a folder with people outside your team, with OTP verification, NDA gating, and watermarking applied.
Can I share a FileLink over WhatsApp or Telegram?+
Yes. FileLink is just a link — paste it into WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Teams, SMS, or anywhere else. The recipient still has to verify with an OTP and follow whatever rules you’ve set; the file itself is never sent through that app.
Is it safe to paste a FileLink into a group chat?+
Safer than pasting the actual file. Anyone in the group can see the link, but opening it still requires OTP verification, so only someone who can access the intended recipient’s email or phone can actually view the file — and every access attempt is logged.
